Terms of Use
Effective August 4, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Open i Networks LLC (“ResearchPie,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern your use of the ResearchPie website, application, accounts, search, subscriptions, downloads, and related services (collectively, the “Services”). By creating an account, downloading the application, or using the Services, you agree to these Terms.
Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms for you. You must provide accurate account information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity performed through your account and must promptly notify us if you suspect unauthorized use.
Accounts and access permissions are personal to the authorized user. You may not sell, transfer, share, or lend your account, session, download link, subscription entitlement, free-trial access, or beta permissions to another person.
Access to protected features
You may access protected application features only while your account has an active paid subscription, an active free trial, or beta access granted through the required WorkOS organization role or other permission that we recognize. Access ends when the applicable subscription, trial, role, or permission expires or is revoked.
You may not knowingly access or attempt to access protected features without one of those valid entitlements. You may not bypass, disable, forge, modify, or evade authentication, organization roles, entitlement checks, usage limits, payment controls, or other access restrictions. This rule does not prohibit visiting public pages, viewing pricing, using the normal sign-in or checkout flow, or contacting us to request legitimate access.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Services to:
- Violate any law or the rights of another person, including intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or contractual rights.
- Search for, create, obtain, promote, or distribute illegal or abusive material, including child sexual abuse material, nonconsensual intimate material, instructions intended to facilitate violent wrongdoing, targeted harassment, or personal information intended to harm another person.
- Threaten, harass, exploit, impersonate, defraud, or deceive any person, or facilitate discrimination or hateful abuse.
- Submit malware, malicious code, or content intended to disrupt, damage, monitor, or gain unauthorized access to a device, account, network, or service.
- Probe, scan, or test our systems for vulnerabilities without our prior written authorization. Please report suspected security issues to support@researchpie.app.
Research into sensitive, controversial, or harmful subjects is not prohibited. A bona fide academic, journalistic, safety, or public-interest inquiry must still comply with the law and may not be used to facilitate harm.
Search and service integrity
You may not conduct, assist, or attempt a denial-of-service (DoS) or distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, or otherwise intentionally impair the security, performance, or availability of any part of the Services or the systems and networks that support them. You may not introduce malicious traffic or code, exploit vulnerabilities, or use coordinated requests to degrade the Services.
Unless we give you prior written permission, you may not use bots, scripts, crawlers, or other automated means to submit searches or requests; scrape or bulk-copy results; create multiple accounts to avoid limits; evade rate controls; or continue sending requests after being asked to stop.
Search quotas and technical limits are part of the Services. We may rate-limit, reject, or block requests and suspend access when reasonably necessary to maintain security, availability, fair use, or compliance with these Terms.
Your research and academic responsibility
You retain any rights you already hold in projects, notes, writing, annotations, and other material you create. You are responsible for ensuring that you have permission to use content you import and for the legality, accuracy, and integrity of your work.
ResearchPie is a research and writing tool, not a substitute for your own judgment. You must follow the academic-integrity, attribution, citation, collaboration, and acceptable-use rules of your school, publisher, employer, or other institution. Do not use the Services to plagiarize, fabricate evidence or citations, or misrepresent another person’s work as your own.
Search results and third-party services
Search results, metadata, links, PDFs, and citations may come from third-party services and may be incomplete, unavailable, outdated, or incorrect. You must verify important information and citations against the original source. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party websites, content, terms, or privacy practices.
Subscriptions, trials, and payments
Current prices, billing periods, and plan features are shown before purchase. Paid subscriptions renew for the displayed billing period until canceled. You authorize Stripe and us to charge the payment method associated with your subscription for recurring fees and applicable taxes. You can manage or cancel a paid subscription from your ResearchPie account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period unless applicable law requires otherwise.
A trial that does not require a payment method ends without an automatic charge unless you separately choose a paid plan. Trial eligibility and duration may be limited. Except where required by law or expressly stated otherwise, payments are nonrefundable.
Beta features
Beta access is limited, revocable, and provided for evaluation. Beta features may be incomplete, change without notice, contain errors, or be discontinued. Do not rely on a beta feature as the only copy of important work. We may request feedback, but you are not required to provide it. If you do, you allow us to use it without restriction or compensation to improve ResearchPie.
Our software and intellectual property
The Services, including the ResearchPie software, design, branding, and documentation, are owned by Open i Networks LLC or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms and your valid access, we grant you a limited, personal, nonexclusive, nontransferable, revocable license to use the application for its intended purpose.
Except where applicable law does not allow the restriction, you may not copy, sell, sublicense, distribute, reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the Services, or remove proprietary notices. No rights are granted except those expressly stated here.
Service changes and termination
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features. We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms, created risk or legal exposure, failed to pay applicable charges, or threatened the security or availability of the Services. When practical, we will provide notice and an opportunity to address the issue. You may stop using the Services at any time.
Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including provisions concerning ownership, payment obligations, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and disputes.
Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” WE DISCLAIM ALL EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND AVAILABILITY. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR SUITABLE FOR ANY PARTICULAR ACADEMIC, LEGAL, MEDICAL, FINANCIAL, OR PROFESSIONAL PURPOSE.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OPEN I NETWORKS LLC AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, WORK, PROFITS, REVENUE, OR OPPORTUNITIES, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICES.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THEIR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO RESEARCHPIE FOR THE SERVICES DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM OR US$100. These limitations do not apply where prohibited by law.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Services change. We will post the updated version and revise the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice when appropriate. Your continued use after updated Terms take effect means you accept them. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Services.
General terms
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Services unless a separate written agreement applies. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them as part of a reorganization, financing, merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
